Jalen has been a pleasure to work with and has made a significant impact on the teens he's worked with through our Young Generations program. Jalen has a talent for using the arts as a tool to connect with students and to allow them to open up to themselves and to each other.

(10 week) Urban League Y.O.L.O Emotional Intelligence Survey Scale
In collaboration with the Buffalo Urban League’s, You Only Live Once (YOLO) program we implemented a 10-week Emotional Intelligence summer program for 15 out of school at risk youth, ages 16 – 24. During the course of the 10-weeks we conducted a qualitative study measuring each student in the following areas: Self Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, and Relationship Management. Pre-Survey Data showed a strong sense of self-awareness when emotionally impacted by situations and challenges in their ability to manage themselves and relationships when triggered. At the conclusion of the program with 9 students remaining due to either expulsion or graduating early from the program, post survey results show a dramatic improvement in the four Emotional Intelligent quadrants across the board. Students stated that they noticed a significant decrease in emotional triggers, a better sense of control of their behaviors when facing conflicts and a more optimistic view of their future.
